The President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, sustainability, and strategic execution of World Trade Center Denver. The CEO serves as the organization’s primary external representative and leads WTCD in advancing its mission to help members collaborate locally, connect strategically, and thrive globally.

WTCD is entering a new stage of organizational maturity. Following the work of the Board Task Force, the organization is moving from a period of broad opportunity and idea generation into a period of focus, prioritization, operational discipline, and long-term sustainability. The next CEO will be responsible for translating the Board-approved mission, vision, Strategic Pillars, and Task Force recommendations into focused action.

The successful CEO will strengthen WTCD’s role as the Rocky Mountain Region’s global commerce gateway by aligning programs, people, partnerships, revenue, and governance around four Strategic Pillars: Trade Education & Knowledge Center; Global Business Services & Trade Facilitation; Community, Membership & Ecosystem Building; and Organizational Sustainability & Impact Infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Execution

· Lead implementation of the Board-approved mission, vision, Strategic Pillars, and Task Force priorities.

· Keep the organization focused and prioritize high-value, mission-aligned initiatives.

· Align programs, events, partnerships, staffing, and investments to strategic priorities.

· Evaluate new opportunities based on mission alignment, capacity, financial sustainability, and long-term impact.

· Build a culture of disciplined execution, clear ownership, and visible follow-through.

Financial Sustainability and Revenue Strategy

· Build a durable, mission-aligned financial model.

· Strengthen revenue of existing business activities and develop new ways of expansion within the existing business model.

· Work with finance leadership and the Board to maintain strong budgeting, reporting, controls, reserves, and long-term planning.

· Identify and reduce reliance on low-yield, high-effort activities that distract from core work.

· Cultivate major funders, sponsors, institutional partners, and public-sector relationships.

External Leadership and Ecosystem Positioning

· Represent WTCD as the Rocky Mountain Region’s global commerce gateway.

· Strengthen relationships with members, sponsors, corporations, government agencies, universities, chambers, economic development organizations, consulates, global partners, etc.

· Position WTCD as a trusted convener, educator, connector, and facilitator for global business.

Embed WTCD more deeply in the regional business ecosystem through development of strategic partnerships and referral pathways.

· Operational Discipline and Organizational Infrastructure

· Build and maintain an operating model aligned to the four Strategic Pillars.

· Clarify roles, responsibilities, decision rights, and accountability across the staff.

· Support practical KPIs, dashboards, workflows, SOPs, and CRM discipline.

· Evaluate, prioritize, and implement essential and strategic operations.

· Lead through senior staff and functional leaders.

Board Partnership and Governance

· Provide updates to the Board on strategy execution, financial position, risks, opportunities, and organizational health.

· Lead the Board to focus on mission, strategy, risk, sustainability, and resource development.

· Support governance practices that clarify roles between Board, committees, CEO, senior staff, volunteers, and consultants.

· Work with the Board to identify and evaluate major commitments, including real estate, capital campaigns, long-term partnerships, and major funding decisions.

Staff Leadership and Culture

· Lead and develop a high-performing, aligned, and empowered mission-centered team.

· Set clear expectations and create a culture of accountability, trust, collaboration, and shared purpose.

· Evaluate and align staff capacity to ensure the organization onboards and prioritizes appropriate work.

· Support leadership development, cross-training, succession planning, and performance accountability.

Qualifications

· Ability to move between strategic vision and practical execution.

· Senior executive leadership experience in a nonprofit, membership, trade, economic development, international business, chamber, association, or mission-driven organization.

· Demonstrated success leading strategy execution, organizational change, and financial sustainability.

· Experience working with a Board of Directors and supporting effective governance.

· Proven ability to build partnerships across diverse groups including business, government, education, philanthropy, and civic institutions.

· Experience developing revenue through sponsorships, memberships, grants, partnerships, donors, programs, or services.

· Strong leadership skills, including staff alignment, accountability, coaching, and culture-building.

Preferred Experience

· Background in international trade, global business, supply chain, foreign direct investment, economic development, or international relations.

· Experience with membership organizations or network-based organizations.

· Familiarity with the World Trade Center network.

· Experience scaling programs, modernizing systems, or leading organizations through transition.

· Experience with CRM systems, performance dashboards, KPIs, or operational process improvement.

· Experience evaluating real estate, capital campaigns, or long-term asset-based strategies.
